Houston Rockets guard David Nwaba will undergo wrist surgery and miss at least six weeks, coach Stephen Silas told reporters prior to Wednesday's game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Nwaba injured his right wrist while attempting to dunk during Sunday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The wrist was sore the following day and he was unable to shoot.
Nwaba's absence left Houston with just eight players for its home game against Brooklyn and the return of former Rockets star James Harden.
The 28-year-old Nwaba is averaging 9.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 28 games (nine starts) this season. He is averaging 22.6 minutes and is coveted for his defense.
Nwaba also has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and Nets during his five-year career. He has career averages of 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 189 games (46 starts).
