Sophomore Tristan Maxwell scored a career-high 22 points and finished 7-of-11 from 3-point range to help Georgia Tech hold off Boston College 81-76 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game on Wednesday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Maxwell was playing in just his fourth collegiate game and had not made a 3-pointer on five attempts. Jordan Usher added 14 points, Yellow Jackets leading scorer Michael Devoe had 13 and nine rebounds and Dallan Deebo Coleman scored 11.
Georgia Tech (7-8, 1-4 ACC) had lost three straight and seven of its last eight games coming in before earning its first conference victory.
Quinten Post posted a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Eagles. Brevin Galloway contributed 18 points and both DeMarr Langford Jr. and Jaeden Zackery added nine points apiece.
Boston College (6-8, 1-3) took its fifth consecutive defeat and has not won since beating Notre Dame in its ACC opener on Dec. 3.
The Eagles led 38-36 at halftime before Georgia Tech opened the second half on a 16-4 run to go up by 10 with 15:10 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets maintained their double-digit lead over the next five minutes before the Eagles regrouped with a 13-1 surge to take a 68-66 lead on Zackery's 3-pointer with 4:58 to play.
Post's layup had Boston College on top 72-68 with 3:35 left before Georgia Tech poured in five straight points. Maxwell's trey with 2:36 on the clock put the Yellow Jackets back in front 73-72, and Georgia Tech closed out the game on a 13-4 run overall.
Georgia Tech is on the road to face North Carolina on Saturday. Boston College visits Clemson in its next game on Saturday.
