The Atlanta Falcons on Friday fired assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis, who has been accused of rape in Michigan, multiple outlets reported.
The dismissal comes after journalist Justin Spiro reported details of violent behavior and screenshots of electronic communication between Lewis and the alleged female victim. The incidents reportedly took place when Lewis was an assistant coach at Michigan from 2023-24.
Screenshots showed explicit messages sent to the victim, and Lewis allegedly threatened to 'f-- up' and kill the woman.
The Falcons put out a statement before Lewis was dismissed.
'We are aware of allegations regarding LaTroy Lewis,' the team statement said. 'We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.'
Lewis, 32, was hired on Feb. 10 by new Atlanta head coach Kevin Stefanski, only weeks after he'd accepted a position on the staff at UConn.
The initial report also alleges that now-former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was told of the victim's accusations, harassed her in a text message and gave Lewis a raise. Moore also allegedly gave a positive recommendation to Toledo to hire Lewis as its defensive line coach, which is where he spent the 2025 season.
Moore, the head coach in 2024-25 after six previous seasons on the Wolverines' staff, was fired last December over an inappropriate relationship with a woman on the program's staff. He then was arrested on allegations that he broke into that woman's home, blamed her for losing his job and threatened to kill himself.
Lewis, an Ohio native who played in two games in the NFL as linebacker for the Houston Texans in 2017, coached at the college level since 2020.
