Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon received a game misconduct and a major penalty for interference on Edmonton Oilers goaltender Connor Ingram in the final minute of the second period Tuesday night in Denver.
Colorado was on the power play when MacKinnon skated hard to the Edmonton net and collided with Ingram in the crease with 35 seconds left in the period. Ingram crumbled inside the goal and sustained a cut on his forehead.
Ingram, who saved 15 of the 17 shots he faced, was replaced by Tristan Jarry.
After a long review, the five-minute major was confirmed and the game misconduct assessed to MacKinnon.
MacKinnon, 30, entered Tuesday leading the NHL in goals with 43 and was second in points with 104. The Calder Trophy winner as the league's top rookie in 2013-14, he won the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2023-24 and is a four-time All-Star.
