The Los Angeles Lakers started their offseason front office expansion, hiring Rohan Ramadas away from the New Orleans Pelicans to fill one of two new assistant general manager positions, multiple outlets reported Monday.
Ramadas most recently was the Pelicans' vice president of basketball operations and strategy after serving as the team's director of analytics.
Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka said this month the team planned to add a pair of assistant GMs, with one focused on scouting and the other on analytics.
A graduate of Southern California, Ramadas also has worked in the aerospace industry in addition to his expertise in analytics.
The addition of Ramadas begins what is expected to be a busy offseason for the franchise. Star player LeBron James is now an unrestricted free agent, reportedly deciding between staying with the team, moving to a new franchise or retiring after a record 23 NBA seasons.
Productive guard Austin Reaves has a player option in his contract with speculation that he will become a free agent. Veterans Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton also have player options, while Rui Hachimura is a free agent.
The Lakers finished 53-29 during the 2025-26 regular season despite dealing with injuries to James, Reaves and Luka Doncic. They were the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference playoffs before being eliminated in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Doncic was not available during the playoffs because of a hamstring injury.
