Madrid [Spain], April 22 (ANI): Real Madrid secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Alaves, while Real Betis registered an impressive 3-2 win against Girona in the ongoing La Liga season on Wednesday.
Real Madrid continued their push in the title race with a hard-fought win against Alaves. Los Blancos held their composure in a closely contested encounter, edging past their opponents with a one-goal margin to collect three crucial points.
Kylian Mbappe put the hosts ahead with the opening goal in the 30th minute, while Vinicius Junior extended Real Madrid's lead in the 50th minute.
Alaves mounted a late challenge and pulled one back in stoppage time (90+3') through Toni Martinez, but Madrid held firm to secure the win.
The victory helps Los Blancos narrow the gap with rivals Barcelona in the La Liga standings. Real Madrid now sit second with 73 points from 32 matches, registering 23 wins, four draws and five defeats. Barcelona continue to lead the table with 79 points from 31 games, having recorded 26 wins, one draw and four losses.
In the other fixture, Real Betis came out on top in a high-scoring clash against Girona. Betis showcased attacking intent throughout the game, scoring three times to outgun Girona in an entertaining contest.
Girona, however, remained competitive and responded with two goals of their own, but ultimately fell short as Betis held on to seal the victory.
Following their 3-2 victory, Real Betis moved to 49 points from 32 matches in the ongoing La Liga season. Betis have registered 12 wins, 13 draws, and seven defeats so far.
Meanwhile, Girona FC remain placed 11th in the table with 38 points from 32 games, having recorded nine wins, 11 draws, and 12 losses in the campaign. (ANI)
