Freddie Freeman hit a go-ahead double in a four-run seventh inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 5-3 victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies to open a three-game series on Monday.
Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Andy Pages also recorded RBIs in the seventh as the Dodgers returned home following a 7-2 road trip.
Los Angeles right-hander Emmet Sheehan gave up two runs over six innings, and Kyle Hurt gave up a run as the bullpen's franchise-record 38-inning scoreless streak came to an end. Hurt (1-0) still ended up with his first career win, and Blake Treinen got the last out for his first save of the season.
Ezequiel Tovar hit a solo home run and had two RBIs for the Rockies, while Tanner Gordon threw five innings of one-run ball in his first start of the season. Willie Castro added an RBI single as he and Tovar had two hits apiece for Colorado, which lost for the sixth time in its past seven games.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Hyeseong Kim led off with a single and scored on a double from Enrique Hernandez in his first at-bat of the season. Hernandez returned from offseason elbow surgery.
The Rockies jumped in front with a two-run fourth inning. Tyler Freeman led off with a ground-rule double, and Troy Johnston followed with a line-drive single off the back of Sheehan's right arm. Sheehan remained in the game.
Castro followed with an RBI single to right field, and Tovar added a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 advantage.
Gordon held the Dodgers' offense in check and Tovar extended the Rockies' lead to 3-1 with a home run while leading off the seventh inning. The last time the Dodgers' bullpen had given up a run was May 12 against the San Francisco Giants.
The first three Dodgers batters reached base in the seventh on two walks and a hit batter before Ohtani grounded into a forceout for a run. Betts' sacrifice fly leveled the score, and Freddie Freeman's double gave the Dodgers the 4-3 lead before Pages delivered an RBI single.
Rockies relievers Juan Mejia and Brennan Bernardino (2-3) each were charged with two runs in the seventh.
Colorado lost first baseman TJ Rumfield in the first inning after he was hit on the right hand by a Sheehan pitch. He was replaced by Edouard Julien.
