Tommy Troy, Nolan Arenado and Ketel Marte homered as the Arizona Diamondbacks broke a three-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in Phoenix.
Troy hit his first major league homer off Emmet Sheehan (3-2) to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth. Arenado socked a bases-empty homer off Sheehan in the seventh, and Marte belted a two-run homer off Jack Dreyer to complete the scoring in the eighth.
Arizona reliever Taylor Clarke (2-1) struck out two in a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the victory in the opener of a four-game series. Paul Sewald pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th save in 16 chances.
Troy added a bunt single for the D-backs, who had five hits. They managed a combined three runs and six hits in their previous two games, losses at Seattle in which the Mariners concluded a three-game sweep.
Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani had three hits and extended his on-base streak to 17 games, during which he is hitting .415 (27-for-65) with six doubles, a triple four homers and 15 RBIs.
Ohtani doubled to open the third inning, held at third on Andy Pages' bloop double to left-center, then scored on Freddie Freeman's groundout to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead off Eduardo Rodriguez.
Ohtani singled to lead off the eighth when second baseman Marte could not handle his chopper to second base. However, Ohtani was erased when Freeman grounded into a first-to-shortstop double play, ending the inning.
The Dodgers had won seven of eight and 14 of 17.
Sheehan gave up two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings, finishing with three strikeouts and no walks. He retired 15 in a row after Corbin Carroll doubled with one out in the first inning before Troy's homer.
Sheehan made the Dodgers' 34th quality start, tops in the majors.
Rodriguez permitted one run and five hits in six innings, with three strikeouts and one walk. He made his fifth quality start in his past six outings and lowered his ERA to 2.24, which ranks fifth in the National League.
