Just five weeks after returning to a managerial role, the Philadelphia Phillies' Don Mattingly is going to the All-Star Game as a member of the coaching staff for National League manager Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, USA Today reported Sunday.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol also has accepted a position on the NL staff, according to the report, while Minnesota Twins manager Derek Shelton will be on the American League staff of Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Mattingly made his debut as Phillies manager on April 28 after Rob Thomson was fired following Philadelphia's slow start. Heading into Sunday's play, the Phillies were 25-11 under Mattingly.
In 13 seasons as a major league manager, Mattingly is 446-363 for the Dodgers (2011-15), Miami Marlins (2016-22) and Phillies.
Marmol has guided the Cardinals to a 34-28 record heading into Sunday's play. In five seasons with the Cardinals, he is 359-351.
Roberts will be making his fifth appearance as NL All-Star Game manager after guiding the Dodgers to their second consecutive World Series title last season. Roberts also received All-Star Game manager nods for taking the Dodgers to the World Series in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2024.
In his first season with the Twins, Shelton has helped the club to a 30-36 record. He also spent six seasons as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates and has a 336-476 career record.
Schneider will serve as American League manager for the first time.
The All-Star Game is set to take place July 14 at Philadelphia.
